LET THEM EAT CAKE
ADELPHI UNIVERSITY
Last Wednesday, my Introductory Art Seminar class was asked to attend an art exhibition at the Performing Arts Center. The event was called "Let Them Eat Cake" and it displayed various paintings, drawings, and sculptures made from students. The majority of the artwork was based upon the theme of "Cake."
I was asked to choose my favorite piece of artwork at the show and it was an easy pick for me. I chose a simple painting of three vanilla cupcakes. To me, this piece best represented the title of the event, "Let Them Eat Cake", because the painting displayed the process of eating a cupcake. When I first heard the name of the event, the first thing I thought of was eating a cupcake and this painting was an exact depiction of my thought. Aside from the literal reason, I also picked it because of it's realism. The cupcakes were painted very well and they looked realistic. The background colors did a good job of contrasting with the main subject and the shadows on the cupcakes made them look 3D. Aside from the artwork that I chose, all of the other pieces were very well done and I enjoyed seeing them all.
After attending this event, I definitely think I will go to more art exhibitions. It was a lot of fun getting to see other students style of art and how they interpreted the theme of the event.

I agree! I definitely want to see more art exhibits :) and I also see what you mean that the cupcakes are showing steps of eating it. Except maybe when I eat it, it is a bit messier..
